Short Term 12 (2013) is a film about Grace who is a supervisor at Short Term 12, a group home for at-risk teens. When a new resident with a history of self-harm arrives, she connects with them and must come face-to-face with a personal crisis of her own. The film features actors Brie Larson and Rami Malek who have starred in other well-received movies and television shows like United States of Tara and Mr. Robot. I especially connected with Grace because she learns how to face her pain and fears with help from those who love her which is something I think we all struggle with at some point in our lives: having the courage to let other people in. I love this film because it focuses on serious, real, and heartbreaking issues - such as divorce, abuse, and self-harm - but it ends with a message of hope.
