Although my response for A Concise History of Cinema (2011), directed by Chris Mitchell, was not one of my favorites, it's included in the portfolio because it showcases my understanding of film history and technology which has shaped how the world views films today. This short documentary placed film into its historical context, visually explaining the long and difficult development of sound and image technology. Because I have never lived in a world that didn't have film and/or other visual mediums, I never thought about how it came to be. Learning about how long it took to develop films as we know them today as well as all of the different technologies that were invented made me more appreicative of films and movies. However, what I really enjoyed about this documentary was that it briefly "acknowledge[d] the history of early films, many of which included black face" because it made me more critical and aware of ideologies that pervade films today, thus developing my critical thinking skills.
